The Services We Provide

Tree Planting

Planting a tree is a lifelong investment. How well this investment grows depends on the type of tree selected and the planting location, the care provided during planting, and the follow-up care after planting. ISA standards say: ideally, trees are planted during the dormant season – in the fall after leaf drop or in early spring before budbreak. Weather conditions are cool and allow plants to establish roots in the new location before spring rains and summer heat stimulate new top growth. Healthy balled and burlapped or container trees, however, can be planted throughout the growing season if given appropriate care.

Tree trimming/pruning seems simple but is one of the most important things you can do for healthy trees. The proper pruning of weak, dead or crowding branches will help to ensure the health and longevity of your trees. Thinning will help to prevent insects, fungus, and other diseases. It also helps prevent limb breakage due to wind. Selective pruning will help your trees grow structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing. Directional pruning will train your tree to grow in a desired direction. Making proper cuts ensures the tree will be able to close the wounds made by removing the branch. To achieve the best results trees should be trimmed/pruned when they are small and on a cycle.

Stump Removal: Smaller stumps can oftentimes be dug out using hand tool like a pick and shovel. Larger stumps can be removed by grinding them out with a stump grinder. Stumps are typically ground out 4-6 inches below ground level then the extra debris is hauled away leaving the area flat.

Tree Removal: Trees that are dead, dying, planted in a bad location or are no longer desirable to the owner are removed. Small trees can oftentimes be removed by cutting them down from the ground using a notch and a back cut. Larger trees that need removed oftentimes have to either be roped down in sections by a skilled climber and a man on the ground controlling the ropes or equipment such as a lift or crane can be used to remove the tree in pieces that can be safely guided to the ground.

Proper Maintenance Helps create and keep a healthy, clean, safe and attractive landscape for all to enjoy. Whether at your home or office we offer maintenance on small to large scale properties. Services include spring and fall clean-up of beds and planter areas, year-round trimming and planting of bushes and shrubs, seasonal lawn mowing and fertilization, weed control and sprinkler repair and maintenance.

A Little History...

Hi, my name is Michael Armstrong and my wife Michelle and I own Treasure Valley Tree Company, based in the Middleton area. With over 20 years experience in all aspects of tree care, I am a certified arborist and a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, as well as a member of the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association.

Michelle and I both grew up in the mountains of Arizona and moved to Caldwell with our family in 2011. I started my career trimming and removing trees in 1999 working alongside one of my older brothers clearing ponderosa pine trees out of high voltage power lines in the higher elevations of Arizona and I have been learning about and caring for trees ever since. My whole
adult life and career has been in trees. I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of different species and types of trees through the years and I love what I do and love learning new things.

In 2016 after spending 17 years as an employee we decided we wanted to start our own business. It has been a great experience and we have loved serving the wonderful people of the Treasure Valley. I would love to see our business grow into a family business that thrives here in the Treasure Valley. We are working hard and hope to one day add a nursery and tree farm division. We strive to diversify over the long term into many different tree related businesses that will help make this valley a great place to live.

Customer Reviews

Mike pruned my Maple tree today. He did an excellent job. Cleaned up all the branches after and was a very reasonable charge. I will certainly recommend him and will call him again.

I had a BIG problem. My 60 foot poplar's center was diseased, and was growing in two directions, toward my house and toward my neighbor's house. I saw an ad in the Middleton Gazette for Treasure Valley Tree Company, plus one other company. They both diagnosed my situation, reaching similar conclusions.

I chose Mr. Armstrong and Treasure Valley Tree Company. He responded immediately to my call, and his bid was 25% lower than the other guy's. There was a snafu with the availability of some equipment. The job was postponed for one week, but the timing was not critical, so it was no problem.

Mr. Armstrong went above and beyond what was expected. He also cut down a smaller tree and trimmed down two stumps for no extra charge. He worked for two solid days in bitter cold temperatures. On the adjacent tree, in addition to the agreed trimming, he ended up cutting two more branches for aesthetic reasons, to make the remaining tree look balanced. When he was finished, the clean-up was perfection. You couldn't even tell he'd been there. He hauled away all waste, and threw the majority of wood over the fence for my neighbor, as arranged.
